The ultimate summer thirst-quencher – naturally caffeine-free, full of flavour, and proudly South African!
Ingredients:
-4 Rooibos tea bags (or 4 tsp loose-leaf rooibos)
-4 cups boiling water
-2–3 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
-Juice of 1 lemon
-Fresh mint leaves
-Orange or naartjie slices (optional, for a truly SA touch)
-Ice cubes
Optional South African Add-ons:
-A splash of granadilla (passionfruit) juice or cordial
-Garnish with a piece of dried mango or a sprig of buchu if you’ve got!
Instructions:
Steep the rooibos tea in 4 cups of boiling water for 10–15 minutes (the longer, the stronger the flavour).
Remove tea bags or strain loose tea. While warm, stir in honey or maple syrup to dissolve.
Add lemon juice and let the tea cool to room temperature.
Pour into a jug, add mint leaves and orange/naartjie slices.
Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
Serve over ice with extra fruit and mint for garnish.
