Zebra Cake with Bar One Ganache

This eye-catching zebra-striped vanilla and chocolate cake pays tribute to our wildlife roots šŸ‡æšŸ‡¦ and is topped with a decadent Bar One chocolate ganache. It’s the perfect party dessert or braai finale — with a flavour burst that screams ā€œhomeā€.

Ā Ingredients:

For the cake:

-2 cups cake flour

-1 cup sugar

-1 tbsp baking powder

-½ tsp salt

-1 cup milk

-¾ cup oil

-3 large eggs

-2 tsp vanilla extract

-2 tbsp cocoa powder (for the chocolate swirl)

For the Bar One Ganache:

-2 Bar One chocolates (chopped)

-½ cup cream

-Pinch of salt


Method:

Make the Cake:

- Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease and line a 20cm round cake tin.

- Mix all cake ingredients (except cocoa) in one bowl until smooth.

- Divide the batter in two bowls. Add cocoa powder to one half and mix.

- Using two spoons, alternate scoops of vanilla and chocolate batter into the center of the cake tin to create zebra stripes.

- Bake for 35–40 min or until a skewer comes out clean. Let cool.

Make the Ganache:

- Heat cream in a pot until just before boiling. Remove from heat.

- Stir in chopped Bar One pieces and a pinch of salt.

- Let sit for 2–3 minutes, then whisk until smooth and glossy.

- Pour over the cooled cake and swirl for effect.
