Chicken Flattie
Chicken Flattie
A whole chicken spatchcocked flat, which means the backbone is removed and the bird pressed open so it cooks evenly and quickly. The result is crisp skin over moist, tender meat.
The flattie is a South African braai institution. Ours is seasoned and marinated in house, with Cape Malay, spicy peri peri, rosemary and lemon and herb to choose from.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a chicken flattie?
A flattie is a whole chicken that has been spatchcocked, meaning the backbone is removed and the bird pressed flat. Flattening it means the whole bird cooks at the same rate, so the breast does not dry out while the legs finish. It is the standard way chicken is done on a South African braai.
What marinades does your chicken flattie come in?
Cape Malay, spicy peri peri, rosemary, and lemon and herb. Each one is seasoned and marinated in house.
How do I braai a chicken flattie?
Start it skin side up over medium coals so the fat renders, then turn it to crisp the skin at the end. Fierce direct heat from the start will burn the marinade before the meat is cooked through.
